10 Bounce House Safety Tips Every Parent Should Know

Bounce houses provide hours of fun, but safety should always come first. Here are essential tips to ensure everyone has a blast while staying safe.

1. Supervise at All Times

Never leave children unattended in or around a bounce house. Assign a responsible adult to watch the inflatable at all times. This is the single most important safety rule!

2. Follow Age and Size Guidelines

Most bounce houses have recommended age ranges and weight limits. Separate younger children from older ones to prevent collisions. A good rule: kids within 2-3 years of age should play together.

3. Remove Shoes, Glasses, and Jewelry

Before entering, kids should remove:

  • Shoes and socks
  • Glasses and sunglasses
  • Jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings)
  • Hair clips and barrettes
  • Anything in pockets
  • 4. No Food or Drinks Inside

Food and drinks create slip hazards and can make kids sick when combined with bouncing. Keep all snacks at a designated eating area away from the inflatable.

    5. Limit the Number of Jumpers

Overcrowding leads to collisions. Follow these general guidelines:

  • Small bounce house (10x10): 4-5 kids max
  • Medium bounce house (15x15): 6-8 kids max
  • Large bounce house (20x20): 10-12 kids max
  • 6. No Flips or Rough Play

Establish clear rules before the party starts:

  • No flips or somersaults
  • No wrestling or tackling
  • No climbing on the walls
  • No pushing or shoving
  • 7. Enter and Exit Properly

    Kids should:

  • Enter one at a time through the proper entrance
  • Sit down and scoot out when exiting
  • Never jump near the entrance/exit
  • 8. Watch the Weather

Never use a bounce house in:

  • Wind gusts over 15 mph
  • Rain or wet conditions
  • Lightning or storms
  • If weather turns bad, evacuate immediately and contact your rental company.

    9. Keep the Area Clear

Maintain a 6-foot safety zone around the inflatable. Keep away:

  • Lawn furniture
  • Grills and fire pits
  • Tree branches
  • Sharp objects
  • 10. Stay Hydrated

Bouncing is exercise! Make sure kids take regular water breaks, especially on hot Texas days. Set a timer for every 20-30 minutes to remind kids to hydrate.
